Technology Companies need a solid Insurance package.

As a technology startup or even a well established company it is imperative to have the right insurance to protect your growing company.

Business Owners policies are important, but this may not be the only insurance you need. A business owners policy will cover your general liability and property coverage. Anthem Blue Cross re-adjusting 2/1/13 rate increase after Department of Insurance review

Media Coverage and California Individual Rate Adjustments

Many of you may have seen news coverage about our agreement with the California Department of Insurance (CDI) to reduce our Individual premium increase that was implemented beginning on Feb. 1, 2013 and impacted approximately 636,000 Individual members.

Anthem Blue Cross Life and Health Insurance Company (Anthem) originally filed for an average 17.9 percent increase, and after negotiations with the Department of Insurance, agreed to change the increase to an average 13.9 percent increase. As a result of the revised rates, the majority of your Individual clients will receive a lower rate than previously communicated. 

Anthem will lower the premium for these Individual market products and will allow policyholders who switched to a lower cost product to switch back to their former product. The members who dropped coverage because of the rate increase can reinstate in the product they recently dropped without going through medical underwriting.

Blue Shield of California Announces 2% pledge giveback in December

Early tomorrow, October 30, 2012, Blue Shield will issue a news release announcing that we are fulfilling our 2% Pledge commitment for 2012 and returning $50 million to our customers as dues/premium credits, a tangible illustration of how we are working to make coverage more affordable. This is the third year of givebacks from our 2% Pledge program to limit net income to 2% of revenue, and return any income earned in excess of 2% to our customers.* 

For those that are eligible for a credit from the 2% Pledge for 2012, the credits will be reflected in their bill for December dues/premium. The credits are applied for customers with medical, dental, vision and life insurance** coverage, and are based on the customer’s August 2012 dues/premium amount. Customers will be sent a letter starting on November 5 notifying them of their credit amount. For employer group customers, the letter will be addressed to the Group Administrator listed in our records. 

The 2012 customer credits will be distributed as follows:

  • Fully insured individual plan (including Medicare Supplement) and group customers will receive a 9% credit on one month’s dues/premium
  • Customers with whom we share risk with will receive a 3% credit on one month’s dues/premium
  • Self-funded groups are not eligible for the credit, nor are persons covered under certain federal and state government contracts that don’t provide a way to give credits
